Dr. Angeline de Bruyns shares a practice with Dr. Bryony Dorrington.

Dr. de Bruyns was born in Namibia and spent her childhood there before immigrating to Canada as a teen. She considers Vancouver Island her home, having lived in various communities from Port Hardy in the north to Victoria in the south. After earning a Bachelor’s of Science at Vancouver Island University in Nanaimo, she completed a Master’s of Biology from McGill University.

Thereafter, she was happy to return to the west coast to attend medical school through UBC’s Island Medical Program in Victoria. After a brief period in Edmonton for her residency training, it was an easy decision to move back to Victoria to be closer to family and to begin her practice. When she’s not working, she enjoys any activities that involve exploring the Island’s natural beauty as well as indoor climbing, recreational volleyball, live music events and camping.

Dr. de Bruyns has been fortunate to be part of the James Bay UPCC Primary Care team for over three years, while also working as a Family Medicine Obstetrics locum in the Victoria community. She looks forward to expanding her practice to include regular prenatal and newborn care, further broadening her spectrum of care.

In addition to maternity care, her interests include mental health and addictions, metabolic health, and women’s health across the lifespan—including sexual health, contraception, and menopause. She feels grateful for the privileged opportunity to work with patients and families to promote health at every stage of life. Besides guiding patients through their pregnancy journey and bringing new life into the world, empowering patients by educating them about their health and engaging in shared decision-making are the most joyful and rewarding aspects of her job!

Dr. Bryony Dorrington was born in South Africa and moved to Ontario with her family as a young child. She completed her Bachelor of Science at Queen’s University. She then went on to earn her medical degree at Western University. She was always drawn to the West Coast so moved to beautiful Victoria to complete her family medicine residency training and has called the Island home since. She has a broad scope of practice including hospitalist and comprehensive family medicine but discovered her true passion in maternity and newborn care. She is privileged to share a maternity practice with Dr. Angeline de Bruyns at the James Bay Urgent & Primary Care Centre. Outside of work, Dr. Dorrington enjoys cycling and jogging along the ocean, playing board games with friends and family, traveling and adventuring outdoors with her husband.
